What do Americans actually really know about???
by invisible inwhat do americans in general actually really know about the big outside world outside of their own culture?.
it's certainly not just me, but for years since early childhood in fact, it has been commonly accepted by many, that americans in general are the biggest ignorant fools residing almost anywhere on the planet, yet they still do their damndest to have everyone believe what a great nation they are.
is it even beyond their comprehension how foolish they look often to the rest of the world, the fact that they have so little understanding of problems on the worldwide front?.

As a Brit I have to disagree.
I've only been to the US once, Mineapolis. I was there for a week and met some great people. They knew a lot about british culture (music,TV etc). They were not all big and fat which is what i'd been told. In fact some of the girls I met were bloody gorgeous.
Much of what I love about life is American. Hollywood films, great comedians, American music.
I do think President Bush is a bit of a nutcase. I worry about him. And I do think they have to change their foreign policies quickly.
But in the end I'm glad the world super power is the US and not Iran or Iraq.

JW: Lower requirements

My dad sometimes talks about the old 'International' Assemblies they used to go to in the sixties.
One such was at Wembley stadium. It lasted 7 days, started at 8:30am and went on into the late evening. My dad said some speakers could talk for 2 hours, droning on and on without an outline.
He says it rained that much that by the end of the week the conditions were more like the Somme in WW1.
There were very few amenities for young children back then. I was 2 years old at the time and ended up with food poisoning. I spent the following week on a drip in a children's hospital back in Manchester. I'm just glad I was too young to remember.
It's good to know Jehovah provided so well for his people back then.

Xander - you're so right.
They've just taken out the controvertial(sp) parts.
I'm going to approach my parents about this this weekend. I still sign their blood cards and my dad had to have an operation last year without blood. (This type of operation usually requires blood). I need to know now what they believe and what they don't. Another operation might kill him - for what?
I wonder if my parents have noticed these things are missing from the new book.
I fear that my dad could die for something he believes in only for a Watchtower to come out a month after he's dead saying that blood during surgery is now o.k.
I can't let it happen.

Congratulations !!
Brazil definately deserved it. The best team with some great individual players. Somehow it just seems right that Brazil should win the World Cup.
By the way my favourite team of all time - Brazil '82. Zico, Socrates, Junior, Falcao, Eder etc etc - and they didn't even win it!
Only 4 years till the next one...

i have so many-for 15 years i kept getting that last straw-and trying to ignore it- but i think the last straw was when my dad died- everyone kept (keeps) giving me the line of bs about never seeing him again unless i go to meetings.

I didn't really have a final straw.
I had perfected the double life and was happy with it. I had a string of JW girlfriends who helped keep me going to meetings, even though I'd thought the Watchtower was complete bullshit since my mid teens.
My last JW girlfriend was very "spiritual", a complete goody goody (she's now a missionary!) quite tasty but completely boring. But I actually gave the "troof" a go during this period, going to all the meetings, going on the work and praying that God would remove all my doubts. Well he didn't.
I went out one Saturday night and met a Swedish girl in a bar. Instead of being at the meeting on Sunday morning I found myself indulging in a Smorgasbord of sexual fantasies.
A few weeks later at the Thursday night meeting I was telling my best mate about my new Swedish girlfriend and our 'antics' together. But I made a BIG mistake because I also expressed my serious doubts about the Organisation to him. He went straight to the elders and told them what I was up to. He later told me that he only went to the elders because I had doubts, and if I'd not told him that he would have kept the other things to himself.
Well about 2 weeks later I was out and free. I bullshitted my way through 2 committee meetings about how repentent I was so as not to get disfellowshipped then I never went to another meeting.
You can imagine how hard it was to lie through those judicial meetings. I was actually asked at one stage if I had enjoyed sex with a 16 year old Swedish girl. "Oh no brother, you see I was feeling far too guilty at the time!"

It's amazing how many hours can be spent watching pigeons walking round a football pitch when your well and truly bored. They take off in unison at every loud outburst of applause only to land again seconds later. Hours of fun.
Dad always took his binoculars which were good for one thing only - finding the best totty in the audience and making notes of where they were sitting.
Either way it's 'bird' watching.

Soccer World Championship and DC in Germany
by GermanXJW ingermany is in the final of the soccer world championship in japan/south korea.
the game will be broadcasted at 1.00 p.m., german time.
there are five dc this weekend (but only two of german language.).

Germany and Brazil have never played each other in a competitive match.
What pisses me off is that England thrash Germany in Germany 5:1, win the group and then Fifa seed Germany and put England with Argentina, France, Brazil etc etc. The Germans have not played any team in the top 20 in the world to get to the final.
My money was on Germany at the start simply because they are lucky and good at penalties. If they win they will be the worst team ever to win the World Cup.
Come on Brazil !!
